    Core Competences

    secunet is one of Germany’s leading specialists in innovative and sophisticated IT security. As a result of the company’s focus on IT security and IT high security, security aspects are at the centre of all of secunet’s projects. The projects comprise the preparation of security analyses and concepts, supporting security-critical software development projects, the evaluation of security technologies and the implementation of security solutions, including in the area of high security. The procedures are based on internationally recognised guidelines and standards. Furthermore the portfolio includes the programming and implementation of various smart card scenarios.

    In Essen, secunet runs a BSI-approved (BSI – German Federal Office for Information Security) test laboratory for IT conformity in accordance with ISO 17025 and is experienced in the preparation and implementation of other test procedures. For more than 10 years secunet has supported evaluations of IT systems in accordance with Common Criteria (CC) and Information Technology Security Evaluation Criteria (ITSEC). Confirmation procedures are also supported in accordance with the German Signature Act.

    Due to its concentration on highly sophisticated IT security, secunet is repeatedly involved early in the planning stages of flagship projects, when secure communication is required or data and digital identities need to be protected against unauthorised access. For example, secunet has made an important contribution to projects such as the German electronic passport, secure citizen portals and digital identities, and automated border control.

  • Proven Knowledge of Regulated Markets

    secunet is a longstanding and established service provider for public authorities and armed forces and, after many years of working with government agencies, has fundamental knowledge of their requirements.

    The successful collaboration resulted in a wide-ranging security partnership being agreed between the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and secunet in 2004.

    Furthermore, in 2011, secunet has been certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as one out of two companies for information security consulting and information security auditing.

    The company also supports the development, evaluation and certification of governmental technology products in accordance with Common Criteria (CC) and ITSEC.

    The joint activities with the BSI include among others the development of the SINA product range and solutions in the area of biometrics, eIDs and automated border control.

  • secunet easygate: Automated Border Control "Made in Germany"

    Modern identity documents such as electronic passports and national ID cards are far more than evidence of an individual‘s personal identity.

    The holder‘s biometric data stored in the chip enables the automation of processes such as border control.

    This is the focus of secunet easygate: it turns border control checks into a simple, intuitive process that any passenger can carry out themselves in just a few seconds.

    Passenger processing is made significantly more efficient, waiting times are reduced, and more passengers can be processed (in parallel).

    secunet easygate also sets bench-marks in terms of security. It will for example check both the electronic and the optical security elements of the identity document in detail.

    The German Federal Police has been relying on its trustworthiness for many years under Project EasyPASS, as have the Czech border police under Project EasyGO.

  • secunet biomiddle - Middleware for Biometric Systems and eID

    secunet biomiddle is a flexible and easily expandable platform for biometrics and eID-applications.

    By making use of internationally standardised interfaces, secunet biomiddle enables modular use of biometric technologies also in complex application scenarios.

    The partial exchange or the upgrade of partial components in the entire system is thus possible at any time.

    secunet biomiddle communicates with client applications via a service-oriented interface; this makes the middleware independent of system platforms and programming languages.

    As a joint project with the German Federal Office for Information Security, secunet biomiddle is internationally recognised as the reference implementation and preferred architecture for use of biometrics in eID-documents.
