Haneda International Airport

Airport Information

Haneda International Airport

Tokyo Airfield (Haneda) was returned to the Japanese Government on July 1, 1952 and renamed as Tokyo International Airport. Since then it has served as Japan’s main gateway to the skies for over 60 years. Nowadays it has grown into one of the world’s busiest airports used by over 85 million passengers a year.

In the meantime, most of the international services were transferred to New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) as it started its operation in 1978. However, the promotion of the re-expansion project for Tokyo International Airport allowed Haneda to become again greater Tokyo’s new gateway in October 2010 with scheduled international air services for the first time in 32 years. along with the commissioning of Runway D and opening of the international passenger terminal.

The construction and operation of the international terminal and facilities at Tokyo International Airport, which has been undertaken by TIAT, were planned as part of the Tokyo International Airport re-expansion project by way of PFI (Private Finance Initiative) , aimed at designing and supervising the construction of the passenger terminal, parking lot for airport users and the connecting walk-through linking these two facilities, as well as their efficient management and operation.

To this end, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced an implementation policy on April 15, 2005 and then application guideline on July 29, 2005. On the background of the above movement, the founders of our company, Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. (JATCO), Japan airlines Corporation and All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd., formed a consortium comprising 14 companies under the leadership of JATCO, which, after primary and secondary government reviews, was designated as a candidate for the selection process.

From the Departure Lobby to Boarding Gates, flat paths minimise the ups and downs of changing floors.

Pedestrian flow took precedence in design, minimising the need to move between floors. The first floor offers direct access to roads. The second and third floors give travellers direct access to arrivals and departures, respectively. The fourth and fith floors host shops and service facilities.

Departures
The terminal houses 144 check-in counters for airlines, including the Common Use Terminal Equipment (C.U.T.E) for multiple carrier uses. Furthermore, 56 Common-use Self Service (C.U.S.S) automatic check-in machines reduce waiting times and give travellers a self service option for checking- in. Haneda goes to great lengths to make travel more convenient.

Arrivals
In the center of the arrival area, an information counter offers next-level convenience to travellers and within 50 meters of the arrival exit, public transportation and transit counters give customers a fast, easy way to get where they’re going.
